This Chocolate Strawberry Shake is a delicious healthy treat!
Strawberry flavor with a kiss (or more) of chocolate…
It’s like sipping a Chocolate Covered Strawberry.

This yummy Chocolate Strawberry Shake is the perfect healthy treat!
One of the best parts of our diet change (even three years in) is re-discovering how delicious and flavorful so many healthy foods are. I love being able to make something that’s nourishing and delicious at the same time, whether that’s re-making a favorite snack with natural sweeteners or putting together a big-time salad that tastes like heaven. These kinds of recipes not only taste good, they make you feel great, too.

This Chocolate Strawberry Shake is a healthier take on dessert. Make from good-for-you ingredients and tastes amazing!
This Chocolate Strawberry Shake is one of those things. It’s really more of a smoothie than a shake, but it’s made to taste more like dessert than a breakfast smoothie. I wanted it to taste like a chocolate-covered strawberry or a strawberry dipped in chocolate fondue.

One of our favorite fondue places adds a bit of peanut butter to their chocolate mixture and it’s amazing. I added that to these smoothies and the flavor was awesome. Add a tiny bit of crunch from some chocolate chips and… I’m so there.

It’s certainly not a green smoothie nutritionally, but it’s definitely a lot more nourishing than ice cream!

This Chocolate Strawberry Shake feels decadent but it's made from healthier ingredients. We love it!

 Notes on the recipe:

Sweetness. You certainly don’t need to add the maple syrup to the shake if you have super-ripe fruit. I found it tasted a little bit flat for us without it, but if you have super-ripe fruit (or you’re avoiding added sweeteners), you can leave it out. Ditto for the chocolate chips. I LOVE them in the recipe, but if you can’t have any added sugar, just skip them.

Ch-ch-ch-chocolate. Our favorite kind of gluten free, dairy free chocolate is Enjoy Life. It tastes just like the regular stuff (really!), but it’s dairy, gluten, egg, soy, and nut free, which makes it awesome for families and friends with food allergies. Also, what’s not to love about *mini* chocolate chips?

But I’m allergic to nuts! No worries. The nut butter adds a little bit of creaminess and a tiny bit of flavor. If you’re allergic to nuts, you can absolutely omit the nut butter. I haven’t tried this with sunflower butter, but I do know that it tastes perfectly fine without the nut butter added.

These Chocolate Strawberry Shakes are like sipping a chocolate-covered strawberry AND they're made from healthy ingredients. What are you waiting for? (Vegan & Paleo)

  • Author: One Lovely Life
  • Yield: 2 large or 4 small servings 1x

Description

If you make this with fresh fruit instead of frozen, you’ll want to add about 1 cup of ice cubes for that frosty texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 ripe banana (frozen or fresh)
  • 2 1/23 cups strawberries (frozen or fresh)
  • 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa or raw cacao powder
  • 1 Tbsp almond or peanut butter (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp pure maple syrup (optional)
  • 23 Tbsp chocolate chips (I like Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips)

Instructions

  1. Place almond milk, banana, strawberries, cocoa powder, nut butter, and syrup into your blender.* Puree until smooth, adding more milk if necessary. Stir in chocolate chips (or sprinkle on top).
  2. *Note: If you’re using fresh fruit, you’ll want to add 1 cup of ice to your blender with the other ingredients to give it a frosty texture.

  1. I love this recipe!! The ingredients are so well balanced! I used blueberries instead of strawberries, for the nut butter I used cashew butter & used cacao nibs in place of choc chips (it’s just what I had at home). I also added 1/4 cup of oats. It was super divine & I will definitely make it again.
