Let’s hear it for summer fruit! Between fresh watermelon, peaches, all kinds of berries, and ripe cherries, I could basically live off fruit this time of year!

One of my favorite ways to get the most out of all that abundant produce is a beautiful fruit salad, and this Cherry Berry Fruit Salad ALWAYS delivers. We’ve been making it for SIX years now!

I love to bring a big batch to family get-togethers and cookouts all summer long. It seems to me that a fresh fruit salad is ALWAYS a welcome addition at barbecues, potlucks and parties! It’s kid-friendly, light, colorful, and delicious–the perfect complement to other summer favorites, like BBQ Ribs, Chicken Burgers, Potato Salad, Baked Beans & Coleslaw.

Part of the reason I love it so much? It’s REALLY easy to make. Here’s all you need to make this easy fruit salad recipe…

Simple Ingredients To Get Started

A mix of fresh, juicy berries, sweet cherries, and simple dressing? Count me in! Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients list:

  • Strawberries. Fresh strawberries form the base of this salad since they’re usually the least expensive and easiest to find. They make the perfect “backdrop” for the other berries and cherries to shine!
  • Blueberries. Fresh blueberries add a gorgeous color contrast that makes this salad POP!
  • Blackberries. For a deeper color, and satisfying tangy flavor! I love this combination of berries for the blend of colors and flavors!
  • Fresh Cherries. The star ingredient! I use fresh sweet cherries for this salad in summer. They’re gorgeous, special, and perfectly sweet.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves. A lovely little touch that makes this salad shine! (It’s that pretty green pop of color, for me!)
  • Our Easy Honey-Lime Dressing. Fresh lime zest, lime juice, and honey (or agave!) make up our favorite simple fruit salad dressing. It’s fresh, vibrant, and SO GOOD with these delicious cherries and berries!

Pitting Cherries Doesn’t Have To Be The Pits!

While you can absolutely pit cherries by hand with a knife (make a small slice all the way around the cherry from stem to bottom, then twist the berry open and pry out the pit with the tip of the knife). The job goes MUCH faster with a cherry pitter!

I’m not usually one for one-use gadgets, but a cherry pitter is 100% worth it to me for making cherry recipes all summer long. (You can also use it to pit olives for snacks, salads & charcuterie boards!) This budget-friendly pitter is a great option when storage space or money is tight!

FAQ + Tips For The Best Fruit Salad

Can’t Find Cherries? When they’re not in season or you can’t find them at the grocery stores, you can swap out the cherries for purple or red grapes instead. They’ll still give you a red color and sweet, juicy flavor. (Or you can swap them in for the blackberries if your family doesn’t like them!)

Make-Ahead Tips. The dressing for this easy fruit salad will keep about 4 days in the fridge, so you can absolutely mix it up a day in advance if needed. I recommend not dressing this salad until about 2 hours before serving for best results.

Try It For Dessert! This gorgeous salad also makes a great dessert! Serve on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream, or spoon it over bowls of vanilla ice cream or pound cake. It’s delicious!

How Long Will Leftovers Last? Because of the dressing, this cherry fruit salad will continue to soften, so it’s best eaten in 2-3 days. I’ll often blend leftovers the next day with some ice to make a smoothie (SO GOOD) or I’ll pour the puree into popsicle molds for incredible fruit popsicles (we LOVE these!).
