The first week of school is in the books! In a sweaty turn of events, our air conditioning broke yesterday and in my haste to escape the 90 degree house (it was 110 outside), I didn’t bring my camera with me to the hotel we “camped” at for the night. I’m sorry there aren’t as many pictures as usual, but I still wanted to put this out there for today. Let’s get to Five Fact Friday!
2. She’s doing it! Sophie’s in a transition situation, as they’re going to try to move her into a general education classroom from a special needs one. Academically, she’s right on par or ahead of her peers, which would make a GenEd classroom a terrific fit. Socially and behaviorally, we still have some things to work on. She has two FABULOUS teachers (just fabulous!) who have her best interests at heart, and she’s adjusting very well to a full school day (even though it’s really exhausting).
3. Mostly love. Milo has a mostly love relationship with preschool. The first day, he bounced up and down as we walked to his classroom saying, “I can’t wait to see Miss ___! I can’t wait to hear her voice!” He didn’t cry at drop off (which was a happy surprise!). When I went to pick him up, the class had to walk past parents from the playground into the classroom to get their belongings, and that was the last straw from him. He leapt into my arms sobbing that he didn’t want to go back, but by the time we picked Sophie up that afternoon, he was telling her how much fun he’d had, how nice his teacher was, and how excited he was to go back on Wednesday.
Perhaps my favorite conversation on the subject, though was this: when asked,”What did you do at preschool?” his first response “we washed hands THREE TIMES!” Sounds about right.
4. My girl. While Milo and I had a few afternoons together per week when Sophie was in preschool, the extended one-on one time we have while she’s in full-day kindergarten has been one of his favorite things. On Thursday, he grabbed my hand as we marched back to the car after dropping Sophie off and said “Mom? You’re my best girl.” I miss (MISS! MISS!) Sophie while she’s at school, but I can’t deny that this one-on-one time with Milo has been really important for our relationship.
5. Almost there! Our house is nearing completion! I’m sorry if you’re feeling tired of updates. It’s just one of the most exciting things in my life at the moment. This week, we got all our toilets, faucets, and sinks installed and they started on the final coat of paint!
All that’s left is bathroom mirrors, the rest of the interior paint, our exterior detail work (shutters, front door, and garage door painted), and our master shower walls. The shower installers are apparently stretched pretty thin, so everything in the house might be done except the shower. It kills me to know that we could be moving in earlier if not for one shower, but I’m also thrilled that everything will be done soon and so grateful that we have builders working on our house.
This week’s newsletter goes out tonight around 6pm. I’m sharing a peek at the paint choices I’m looking at for the cabinets, as well as some inspiration photos I’m using to plan a few of the rooms. Be sure you’re signed up if you don’t want to miss it!
