Happy Christmas! Consider this my Christmas card from the blog. Wishing you every good thing, friends!
We’re finishing up our last few Christmas to-do’s this week (which are almost all fun things, like decorating cookies for Santa, going to some really fun light displays, etc.) and I’m so excited to hop into the weekend and this Christmas break with my family.
It was a year of a lot of new things and a year of letting some other things go. One of the things I let go this year was sending out Christmas cards. I will probably pick right back up next year, but it was one thing I decided I could let go of this season to reduce stress. But if I could send each of you a Christmas card from the One Lovely Life blog, here’s what would probably be in it…
2016 has been a really big year for our family. We bought our first home in August and have been slowly putting things together inside, starting with an immediate update to our kitchen. Next year, we’re excited to tackle the still-dirt-and-weeds backyard and “finish” some more of the inside projects. Michael took on more responsibility at work and has been working on several projects at home that keep him busy. He’s still reading voraciously, and he felt like Christmas came early this year when we got to see the new Star Wars movie last weekend.
My blog took me to some really fun and unexpected places this year–some big sites featured my recipes, I was interviewed for an incredible podcast, I got to do a recipe challenge and several live-broadcasted cooking demonstrations with Sprouts for Facebook Live (see here, here, and here), and I even had a recipe (very) briefly featured on The Doctor’s TV show. I’ve been trying to learn everything I can about photography and even started doing some video this year. I hope to really step up my video game next year. The learning curve has been a steep one, but I LOVE the process!
Sophie started full-day kindergarten this year and feels like she rules the school. We absolutely LOVE her teachers. They’ve been incredible, and we’ve been SO happy with our school experience. Sophie received an award from the city mayor for being her school’s student of the month, loved getting to “compete” in the school fun run, and thinks that gym and the school’s STEM lab are the best parts of school. She learned how to swim this summer, and loves riding her bike. She’s still into all things creative, loves reading, and tries to sneak in some personal space from Milo.
Speaking of Milo, he spends most of his time trying to keep up with Sophie. He’s still her biggest fan and fiercest protector (even though she’s pretty darn good about standing up for herself). He started preschool this year and is more than a little in love with his teacher (We are too. She’s amazing). He also made some big progress in learning to swim (though he HATES lessons) and learned how to pedal his tricycle. He started pedaling purely to keep up with Sophie, but discovered he really loves riding bikes (trikes). His tiny legs have made him the neighborhood’s smallest speed demon.
Though this little update highlights the good/fun/exciting/happy-to-report things from the past year, it’s also been a big growing year for our little family. We are grateful for the chance to learn, grow, and become a little bit better. We hope this holiday season finds you happy, healthy, safe, and loved, and we wish you every good thing this season and always.
