Pumpkin Patching – Visiting our favorite little pumpkin patch this week and checking off fall bucket list items as we go. Happy weekend, friends!
Fall in Arizona is a funny thing. Your brain is usually very much in fall mode, but the temperatures still need some convincing. It’s been nice and cool in the mornings, but temperatures can be anywhere from the 80s to the 100s during the day in October. The past several years, in fact, it’s been well into the 90s when we’ve visited the pumpkin patch (even when we go in the morning!) We MAJORLY lucked out this year and enjoyed temperatures in the 78-85 range which felt remarkably refreshing after years of sweating to death. Ha!
As for the actual pumpkin patch, we’ve been visiting a fun one that’s not too long of a drive but still offers all kinds of fun. It became one of our first traditions after moving here four years ago. Both kids have memories of shouting “yaroo!” as they go down the big tunnel slide and riding in bumpy barrel trains. Some years we’ve bought cotton candy, other years it’s been snow cones, but we always have fun.
This year was no different. We slid down slides (a million billion times), bounced on a giant jumping pad, rode the barrel trains, did water pump rubber duck races, and even attempted the corn maze for the first time. Sophie walked right in (having never done one in her life) and announced “Follow me guys. I know just where to go.” Whether we did it correctly or not (I’m still not sure), we made it back to the exit/entrance and had a wonderful (if exceedingly dusty) go of things.
We picked pumpkins, more symbolically than physically. They have them pre-picked in a little shaded hay bale area. My kids always go for the sugar pumpkins to make from-scratch goodies later.
Dusty and happy, we got to go the reopening weekend from one of our favorite places to eat and checked off “try Disneyland in the fall,” “visit the pumpkin patch,” “go to Joe’s” and “try a corn maze” from our bucket list.
We still have several trick or treating events, school parties, and some Halloween treat-making to do, but we’re well on our way to getting it all checked off!
What’s on your fall bucket list?
