I’ve found that if I leave all the peels on, it’s a bit gritty, but I hate to lose all that fiber, so I usually peel half the pears. It works like a dream.
- 5–6 large pears (or 6–7 medium ones), peeled if desired then cored and diced
- 1/4 cup water (you could also sub in apple cider or apple juice)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cardamom
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- Place diced pears, water, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg in a large saucepan. Cover and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium low and continue simmering for 15-20 minutes, or until the pears are quite soft.
- Let cool, then puree in a blender, food processor (or right in the pot with an immersion blender) until completely smooth.
