Description

Our easy house dressing recipe is the perfect homemade salad dressing for your favorite salads. Come for the simple ingredients and stay for the flavor! (Don’t miss some tasty variations to try in the notes below!)

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup Fresh Lemon Juice* (Do not use bottled)
  • 1 Tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Juice The Lemons. If you haven’t already, squeeze and measure the fresh lemon juice, removing any seeds.
  2. Combine. Add lemon juice, vinegar, Dijon mustard, oregano, salt, and pepper to a mason jar or small mixing bowl. Whisk to combine until well blended.
  3. Whisk In Olive Oil. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while you whisk. Adding the oil gradually helps you incorporate it better.
  4. Taste & Adjust. Then, taste the dressing. Add additional salt, pepper, herbs or lemon juice, if desired.
  5. Serve & Store. Store dressing in an airtight container, glass jar, or bottle for best results! Enjoy on your favorite green salad, pasta salad, or quinoa salad. Dressing will keep up to 1 week in the refrigerator. It is normal for dressing to separate and the olive oil to solidify in the fridge. You can shake or whisk it again to quickly re-combine it at room temperature.

Notes

  • Try Adding Zest. For more lemon flavor, add a little lemon zest! 1/2 teaspoon is plenty!
  • Try Adding Parmesan. For a cheesy Italian house dressing, add some grated parmesan or asiago cheese. 2-3 Tablespoons is plenty to start.
  • Try Adding Xanthan Gum. If you keep it on hand (like for gluten-free baking projects), adding 1/8 teaspoon or so of xanthan gum will help keep the dressing from separating. Whisk it in with the olive oil.
  • Try Adding Fresh Herbs. Feel free to add 1-2 Tablespoons of fresh herbs! Fresh basil, parsley, oregano, and dill are all nice!
  • Try Adding Garlic. For a punchy garlic flavor, add 1 clove minced garlic along with the dijon mustard and seasonings.
