This Fry Dipping Sauce Might Just Unseat Ketchup As The Best Ever

If you’re thinking, “um…what’s fry sauce?” then you’re in for a good time. Made popular by Arctic Circle restaurants in Utah, fry sauce is a creamy dipping sauce made from mayo, ketchup, and a few other little ingredients. Ketchup is classic, but there’s SO MUCH to love about this homemade fry sauce!

⏱️ EASY: This easy fry sauce recipe is done in 5 minutes or less and made from simple ingredients that pack in major flavor.

💥 FLAVORS: It’s kind of a cousin of other easy sauces like Thousand Island Dressing, Burger Sauce, Yum Yum sauce & Comeback sauce! You’ll get creaminess from the mayo, sweet and tangy flavor from ketchup, acidity from pickle brine, along with savory flavor, a little umami, and a little warmth.

🍟 SERVING SUGGESTION: You’ll want this on EVERYTHING. French fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots, onion rings, chicken tenders…so good.

Happy cooking! xo, Emily

Gather Your Ingredients

So what goes into homemade fry sauce? Let’s take a look at our ingredients list:

Ingredients for fry sauce
  • Mayonnaise. Good quality mayo means good quality fry sauce. I usually reach for Hellman’s or Best Foods, but Duke’s is another popular choice! Feel free to use a paleo mayo, if needed.
  • Ketchup. Next up is regular ketchup! (Feel free to use paleo ketchup, if needed.)
  • Dill Pickle Brine. Then, you’ll need the secret ingredient: pickle juice! It’s better than regular vinegar, since it’s got some saltiness and dill. Use the juice from your favorite brand of pickles!
  • Worcestershire Sauce. For some umami! If you’re gluten-free, like we are, you can keep this fry sauce gluten-free by using gluten-free Worcestershire sauce.
  • Paprika. Some paprika adds a little color and subtle savory flavor.
  • Cayenne Pepper. Then, a tiny hint of cayenne adds warmth without making this french fry sauce spicy.
