This recipe is written in partnership with Sprouts Farmer’s Market (my go-to stop for fresh favorites!) All opinions are my own.

It’s almost Labor Day! In so many ways, Labor Day makes it feel like the end of summer. Just about everyone is back to school (or about to be). For a lot of folks, the seasons will start to shift, and the weather will turn from summer to fall over the next few weeks. And with the change in seasons will come a change in the foods that are in season.

But, before we sign off of summer, I wanted to share one more DELICIOUS recipe that feels so fresh and light for all the warm weather. This Cherry Berry Fruit Salad is a perfect side dish that fits almost any diet. Whether you’ve got vegan, vegetarian, paleo, or gluten free friends celebrating with you, this bright, beautiful fruit salad can please all of them!

What Makes this Fruit Salad Amazing:

First: It’s cohesive! One of my big complaints with most fruit salads is that they feel like a jumble of fruits and the combined textures and flavors don’t always compliment each other. Not this one! This cherry berry fruit salad has similar colors and textures that go beautifully together and bring out the best in each other. Not to mention, the mix of berries and cherries make it GORGEOUS!

Next: The gorgeous dressing. Even beyond all the complimentary colors and textures, this fruit salad feels cohesive because we tie it all together with a super simple 3-ingredient dressing that sends this over the top. A little honey or agave, bright lime, and a little bit of fresh mint bring this together in the most mouthwatering way. On that note…

The teeny, tiny hint of mint. If you haven’t been a big mint fan in the past, don’t be scared! A teeny bit of mint is enough to add brightness to almost any fresh fruit. The tiny bit of green is gorgeous, but what you really get here is magnified, “awake” flavors from anything you pair it with. Start small and you can always add on. You might be surprised! Milo, my SUPER picky 5 year old had seconds! (This is the boy who cannot abide mint toothpaste or mint-flavored anything)

It’s perfect for this time of year. You can enjoy this cherry berry fruit salad all summer long, and I’ve even got a trick for what to do when cherries are out of season (keep reading!). Whether you eat it as a delicious side dish or spoon it over some lemon cake, or vanilla ice cream (try coconut or cashew milk vanilla ice cream!), it’ll be a perfect dish to enjoy as you send off summer.

Notes on this Cherry Berry Fruit Salad

Pitting Cherries Doesn’t Have to Be the Pits – I’ve tried a few different gadgets and gizmos for pitting cherries and my very favorite is the least expensive one I’ve found. Mine looks a lot like this (I couldn’t find the exact same one), though this one has over 800 reviews and has a great rating. (You can also use cherry pitters for pitting olives.)

Honey or Agave? – You can use either for this recipe, depending on your dietary needs. If you’re strictly vegan, you’ll want to stick with agave. Vegetarian, paleo, and other diets can choose honey or agave.

I grab my honey and agave at Sprouts, where I can find local honey and have my pick of organic agave syrups to choose from. You can use the darker, raw agave or the light agave (which is lighter in color and flavor) here. All you’ll get is a lovely note of natural sweetness that shines in this recipe.

When Cherries Aren’t in Season… If you can’t find cherries or they’re not on sale, you can swap in some purple or green grapes. They’ll work texturally and will still add a lot of beautiful color to the salad. (It’ll be a bit like my other favorite fruit salad!)
