We’re all craving variety at my house lately. I’m sure some of it is that we’ve been home for 130+ days, but we’re craving things that feel fresh, new, and different, whether that’s rearranging furniture, trying a new movie or show, or switching up our meals.

One easy way we’ve added some novelty to our days is with fresh twists on old favorites. Today, I thought I’d walk you through something SUPER basic, but easy: toast. (Yes, I’m seriously posting about toast.)

Mostly, I wanted to walk you through toast flavors beyond the typical butter or jam that will level up your toast game and turn this simple staple into a satisfying meal.

Let’s get started with some of our favorite sweet and savory toast topping ideas, then I’ll show you six of our favorite toast combinations that’ll totally make your morning…

SAVORY TOAST IDEAS + TOPPINGS TO TRY

If you’re a savory person or eating these for lunch or snack, you can mix and match from these savory toast ideas…

  • Hummus (Experiment with different flavors to change things up!)

TIPS + TRICKS FOR THE BEST TOAST

WHAT’S THE BEST GLUTEN-FREE BREAD FOR TOAST? We have lots of favorites, but some gluten-free bread brands we like are Canyon Bakehouse, Trader Joe’s, Three Bakers, and Schar. You could also try making your own, like this Whole Grain Gluten-Free Bread!

MAKING TOAST FOR A CROWD? You can keep the toast warm and keep it from getting soggy by placing it on a wire cooling rack on a baking sheet and putting it in a warm oven on low heat. Then, you can pull all the warm, crispy toast out at once to let everyone top it the way they like.

TURN IT INTO A TOAST BAR! You can turn all these toast ideas into a toast bar by putting out different toast toppings and letting everyone build them the way they like.

SWAP OUT BREAD FOR ONE OF THESE! If you’re avoiding bread or just looking for a change of pace, try swapping out bread for rice cakes or sweet potato “toast” slices.
