Gather Your Ingredients

These gluten-free french bread pizzas are a family favorite for their flavor, but one thing I love is how simple the ingredients list is. Let’s take a look:

Ingredients for gluten-free French bread pizza
  • Gluten-Free French Bread. I HIGHLY, highly recommend Udi’s Gluten-Free French Baguettes for this. They’re softer and wider than most gluten-free baguettes, and the texture and flavor both lend themselves to this recipe. (Thinner gluten-free baguettes, like Schar or Trader Joe’s don’t work quite as well here.)
  • Garlic Butter. Next, we’ll make a quick garlic butter out of softened butter, fresh garlic (or garlic powder!), parsley, and a little salt. Toasting the bread with garlic butter first helps prevent sogginess, but also adds a delicious layer of flavor you won’t want to miss! It’s so much more tasty than just brushing with olive oil.
  • Pizza Sauce. After the bread is toasted, we’ll spread it with your favorite pizza sauce or marinara sauce. Rao’s is a great store-bought brand, or you can make homemade pizza sauce, if you prefer!
  • Mozzarella Cheese. Plenty of melty mozzarella is a must! I recommend grating your own cheese so it melts better. Pre-shredded cheese is often coated in anti-caking agents that can make it harder to melt. I usually use part-skim mozzarella, but feel free to go with fresh mozzarella or even vegan cheese, if you prefer.
  • Pepperoni or Your Favorite Pizza Toppings. Less is more here! We usually use mini pepperoni slices, but ham or Canadian bacon, cooked Italian sausage, black olives, green bell peppers, red onions, or mushrooms are also delicious. You can even dress them up with fresh herbs like some fresh basil leaves, or experiment with different cheeses!
  • Our Pizza Sprinkle. I add this to basically all my homemade pizza, from Gluten-Free Hawaiian Pizza, to Gluten-Free Pizza Bagels. It’s a mixture of Parmesan cheese, black pepper, flaky salt, parsley, and red pepper flakes. It’s a quick extra step that makes a MAJOR difference in flavor and presentation.

How To Make Gluten-Free French Bread Pizza, Step By Step

As always, you can find the full recipe with ingredient amounts, detailed instructions, and tips in the recipe card below.

Making gluten-free French bread pizzas, step by step
  1. PREHEAT OVEN & MAKE GARLIC BUTTER. Preheat oven temperature to 425° F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, ½ tsp parsley, and a pinch of flaky salt.
  2. SPREAD BAGUETTES WITH GARLIC BUTTER & PRE-BAKE. Slice the baguettes in half lengthwise and use an offset spatula to spread the garlic butter on the cut side of each baguette. Place them butter side up on a sheet pan and bake about 8-10 minutes or until golden brown on the edges.
  3. PREP TOPPINGS & BUILD PIZZAS. While the baguettes are baking with the garlic butter, grate cheese & prep your toppings. When the baguettes come out of the oven, top each with sauce, then layer cheese, pepperoni, and any additional toppings you’d like.
  4. BAKE & GARNISH. Pop the pizzas back in the preheated oven for 5-8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the toppings are heated through. Sprinkle the top of the pizza with parmesan cheese, black pepper, red pepper flakes, flaky salt, parsley, and any other desired garnish, to taste.
  5. SERVE & STORE. Enjoy right away, and store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the fridge 1-2 days. You can reheat them in a toaster oven, air fryer, or the oven to restore their texture!

FAQ + Tips And Tricks For The Best French Bread Pizza

WATCH THE WATER. If you’re adding veggies that have a lot of water (like mushrooms or bell pepper), consider thinly slicing them or cooking them in advance, since they’ll only be in the oven for a few minutes. This will help eliminate extra water so you don’t end up with soggy pizza!

MAKE USE OF YOUR SIDES. This easy French bread pizza recipe is a pretty easy sell for most kids, but to help fill out this meal more and give it some more protein, I recommend serving it with some veggies + Greek yogurt ranch or hummus, or a side of fruit + a yogurt-based fruit dip. You could also make a simple side salad to keep things easy!

GO A LA CARTE! It’s easy to make this delicious french bread pizza custom by letting everyone choose their favorite toppings. More choice = less fighting & fussing over dinner! You can even make it fun by setting out all the toppings like a topping bar and let everyone build their own personal pizzas.

CAN I USE OTHER SAUCES? I haven’t experimented with bbq sauce or alfredo sauce, but they’d probably work here! Just make sure not to add too much sauce, and to toast the bread first, or they’ll get soggy.
